BECKY WEST

For Cumberland County Schools
Board of Education

At-Large Seat

From the Classroom to the Boardroom

Why I’m Running

I have long championed education and dedicated myself to helping children learn and grow. After retiring from teaching in June 2025, I realized how much I missed working with children each day.

My passion as a teacher was helping students overcome the discouragement caused by academic struggles. I worked to help them develop the skills needed to reach their academic potential and experience success that motivates and endures.

Now is the time to advocate for higher academic performance for all students so they have the opportunities needed to build a successful foundation for their education and future opportunities as adults.

Meet Becky West

I am Becky West, a retired special education teacher with 20 years of classroom experience.

I have lived in Cumberland County all my life. I attended Cumberland County Schools from kindergarten in the 1960s through my high school graduation in 1978.

During my 20-year tenure at South View Middle School, I taught basic reading, reading, writing, English Language Arts, and mathematics to students in grades six through eight. I also served as the EC Chair at South View Middle School for several years.

In addition, I collaborated and worked closely with general education teachers and trained new EC teachers in procedures, paperwork requirements, meeting protocols, and the use of CCS-adopted software programs, including CECAS and ECATS.

Becky’s Priorities

Student Growth and Achievement

Student growth, achievement, and success, with preparation for real-world work opportunities.

Why Becky, Why Now

After retiring in June 2025, I realized how much I missed working with children and helping them succeed. Now is the time to advocate for all students and ensure they have the opportunities needed to build a successful educational foundation for their futures.
